About Us - The Details
When and where?Currently lessons are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
Lessons are held at Redhill House (formerly Plush Hotel) and Sidcot School. Most weekday lessons are held after school or early in the evening but toddler and pre-school lessons are held around 2 p.m. in the afternoon leaving most of the day free but with time to go straight to a school pick up for other siblings. In addition, there are Sunday evening lessons from 5.00 until 7.30 pm. Details of the current timetable can be found on the top of the form on the forms page of the website. Please contact Ruth (07919 103078) for details of the classes suitable for your child as this will depend on their ability. Also see the section on pre-school lessons. HelpersTo encourage youngsters to become involved with teaching, we invite teenagers who swim with us to help with equipment, come in the water to assist the teachers, work with swimmers who need extra support and when they are ready, to teach classes of their own. A contribution from each lesson fee goes towards paying our helpers.
Helpers are not generally available for daytime classes. How much? The cost of lessons depends on the venue, the duration and the type of lesson. You can find current costs in the payment form on the Forms page.
Payments are usually made half-termly. We operate during term time only so you do not pay for lessons during the school holidays. If you miss a lesson, we encourage you to bring your child along to another class of equivalent ability to 'make up' their lesson at no extra cost. |
How long?Lessons are 30 minutes duration but increase to 60 minutes once a swimmer is a competent lane swimmer.
Also see section on lane development. Teachers in the waterWe have a teacher in the water until the swimmer is confident over 10m on their front and back.
We enlist teenage helpers from our more advanced classes to assist our less advanced swimmers. Parents and carers are welcome in the water if they wish to help or just be on hand for their child. ClassesWe run a variety of progressive groups from age 3 to 18+ catering for about 400 swimmers each week. Group sizes vary but are usually between 8 and 10. Classes occasionally get busier if swimmers are making up missed lessons from other groups. Our helper programme means that we can sub-divide classes into smaller groups when necessary so you may find your child is in a very small group.
